— ABOUT US

What Is the Senior Driving Program?

The Senior Driving Program is a set of refresher lessons for older drivers who want to stay safe and confident on the road. A senior lesson lasts 60 minutes and is one-on-one. The car has dual controls and the instructor next to you holds VicRoads accreditation. Older drivers anywhere in the Mitcham VIC 3132 area are picked up free.

Lessons focus on modern road conditions, parking and reaction time, shaped around what you want to work on. Please note: this is a driving lesson program. It is not a medical assessment, a VicRoads test or an occupational therapist driving assessment.

— IS IT TIME?

Signs a Refresher Lesson Could Help

None of these mean you should stop driving. They are simply common reasons older drivers book a refresher with us.

You might notice

  • ✓You feel less confident on busy roads or at roundabouts
  • ✓You avoid freeways, night driving or unfamiliar areas
  • ✓Parking in busy car parks has become stressful
  • ✓You have had a near miss or a minor scrape

Or perhaps

  • ✓Family members have mentioned they are worried
  • ✓You are driving again after a long break
  • ✓You have a new car and its technology is unfamiliar
  • ✓Road rules have changed since you last checked

— THE FACTS

75 and over

Drivers aged 75 or over can choose to renew their licence every three years.

Medical conditions

If you have a medical condition that affects your driving, you must tell the VicRoads Medical Review team.

— WHAT IS INCLUDED

What Every Senior Driving Lesson Includes

You get these eight things with any senior driving lesson in Mitcham.

A 60-Minute Lesson, One-on-One

Senior lessons go for sixty full minutes. Only you and the instructor are in the car, and the pace is whatever suits you.

A Dual Control Car

The instructor has a second brake pedal on their side of the car and can step in for an older driver if that is ever needed.

Accredited by VicRoads

Senior lessons are only taught by someone holding VDIA membership, their Working with Children Check, and a Driving Instructor Authority, current and issued by VicRoads.

Free Mitcham Pickup

Older drivers are picked up from home, though school or workplace pickups work too. We cover Mitcham plus the Whitehorse council suburbs close by. The drive back after your lesson is included, with no added cost.

Familiar Local Roads

The lesson uses roads you already drive daily: Whitehorse Road for one, and Canterbury Road and Mitcham Road as well.

Plain, Friendly Feedback

When the drive ends, you hear in plain language what went well and which parts could use more work.

Built Around Your Worries

Roundabouts, parking, busy roads: name the one that worries you and the senior lessons get built around that.

Refreshing the Road Rules

Rules on the road change over the years. As we drive, we explain the Victorian rules that apply now.

Book your senior driving lesson in Mitcham

Older drivers book a senior driving lesson in Mitcham through one short form, and no deposit is asked. Confirmation arrives the same business day. Each booking brings a patient instructor, dual controls in the car, plus free pickup at whichever Mitcham address you nominate.
