Very experienced driving instructor Brother Rahman, very polite and friendly. Insights given prior to my Overseas Licence Drive Test were very professional and precise. I was able to get my Australian Drivers Licence in just an hour of practical. Thank you Mitcham Driving School.

Driving test preparation is a 60-minute lesson, taught one-on-one, with a single aim: a pass on your VicRoads drive test. Test practice happens near Mitcham Testing and Inspection Centre. Your test car has dual controls, and VicRoads has accredited the instructor beside you. Test candidates get free pickup at Mitcham VIC 3132 addresses.
On test day, the testing officer runs a pre-drive check first, where you show the car’s controls, and the on-road drive comes next. Before sitting the test you need to be aged at least 18, with a Hazard Perception Test pass already behind you. Test candidates under 21, on top of that, need a log showing 120 supervised driving hours, 20 of them at night (VicRoads).
Allow about 30 minutes for the drive test, which is made up of a pre-drive check plus two on-road parts. Each of those test steps is rehearsed in our preparation lessons, on roads surrounding Mitcham Testing and Inspection Centre.
Before you drive, you show the testing officer the indicators, brake lights, horn, headlights (high and low beam), hazard lights, and washers and wipers. You also point out the handbrake and demisters, then start the engine.
Quieter roads. You turn left and right, change lanes, and do a reverse park or three-point turn. You then pull over while the officer scores this part. You must pass it to continue.
Busier roads. You are assessed turning at different intersections, changing lanes, merging with traffic, and driving on straight and curved roads.
Back at the VicRoads centre, you are told whether you passed and which parts of your driving need work. The whole test takes about 30 minutes.

The testing officer awards points for nine safe driving skills, and penalises two kinds of mistake. An immediate termination ends the test on the spot. Too many critical errors also mean a fail. Every lesson we run checks for both.
You fail on the spot if you put anyone at immediate risk. For example, if you:
Recorded when something could be unsafe but is not an immediate danger. For example, if you:

Test preparation is charged at $69 for an hour in an automatic, $85 for an hour in a manual. Our Lesson + Test package bundles a 60-minute lesson as a warm-up with the use of our test car, at $220 if you test in an automatic, $285 if in a manual. Test candidates with a Mitcham VIC 3132 pickup address pay nothing for pickup.
Eight things, always the same, are built into each Mitcham test preparation lesson, from a one-off session to a full Lesson + Test package.
A test preparation lesson runs sixty minutes in full, one instructor to one learner. The whole hour is spent on what test day demands of you.
Test lessons use Victorian-registered cars with dual controls, including a brake the instructor can reach. On a Test Only or a Lesson + Test package, you sit the drive test in that same car.
Test preparation is taught only by instructors with current VicRoads authorisation, known as a Driving Instructor Authority, plus VDIA membership and an up-to-date Working with Children Check.
For test lessons we come to your school, workplace or home. That covers all of Mitcham plus each Whitehorse council suburb beside it. We also drive you back when the test lesson ends, and that costs nothing more.
Test lessons take in Heatherdale Road, home of Mitcham Testing and Inspection Centre, and its surrounding roads. Canterbury Road, Mitcham Road and Whitehorse Road are part of test practice too.
Each test lesson closes with your instructor's straight feedback: the skills that improved, the ones needing work, and a likely date for being drive-test ready. Test candidates never get false promises.
We identify whichever skills are likeliest to cost points in the test, and those get fixed first in your lesson time.
Choose a Lesson + Test package and, one hour before your test slot, we collect you for 60 minutes of warm-up driving.
To book a driving test preparation lesson in Mitcham, test candidates complete one short form. We ask for no deposit and confirm your test lesson within the same business day. You get a dual control car, free Mitcham address pickup and an instructor who is VicRoads-accredited.
Our instructors teach around the Mitcham Testing and Inspection Centre every week. Your final lessons are planned on the kinds of roads, intersections and traffic you will meet on test day.
Test preparation instructors are VDIA members (Victorian Driving Instructors Association). Each test instructor’s Driving Instructor Authority, issued by VicRoads, is current, and so is each instructor’s Working with Children Check.
Your test begins while the car is still parked. Together we run through the pre-drive check, covering controls such as wipers, indicators and lights, until you can do it without thinking.
We practise low-speed manoeuvres such as reverse parallel parking and three-point turns until you can do them calmly and accurately.
Common test mistakes include missed head checks, rolling stops, poor gap selection and speed in school zones. We watch for them in every lesson.
On a Lesson + Test package, test day starts with pickup an hour early. Then comes 60 minutes of warm-up driving, and after the test result comes through we take you home.
You get a straight answer on whether to sit the test yet and on what needs more work. We will not give you false promises.
Want to know where you stand? Book a mock driving test that follows the VicRoads test format, with detailed feedback afterwards.
Missing one document can cost you your test and six weeks. Check both lists the night before.

Mitcham test candidates raise these questions with us most often in the lead-up to a VicRoads drive test.
Every test candidate must be aged at least 18, hold a Hazard Perception Test pass, and have had their learner permit for the minimum period. Test candidates under 21, on top of that, need 120 logged hours of supervised driving, 20 of which are at night.
Under 21, the minimum is 12 months. Aged 21 to under 25, it drops to 6 months. At 25 or older you only need 3 months.
First comes a pre-drive check, where you show you know the car’s controls. After that you head out on the road. The testing officer tells you where to go and scores how safely you are driving.
A critical error is a mistake that could be unsafe but is not an immediate danger, such as stalling, missing a head check or signal when no one has to react, or rolling through a Stop sign. You will fail if you make too many.
Putting anybody at immediate risk ends the test on the spot, and that is a fail. It happens if you drive 5 km/h, or anything more, above the limit, exceed the limit by any amount inside a school zone that is operating, drive through a red light or Stop sign, mount the kerb while driving, or need help from the testing officer or instructor.
Our test candidates mostly book into Mitcham Testing and Inspection Centre for the drive test. It is located at 93A Heatherdale Road in Ringwood. VicRoads operates the test centre by appointment from 8.30am until 4.30pm on weekdays, Monday to Friday.
That depends on your level right now. One or two lessons to polish things up is enough for some learners, and others take more. After the first test lesson your instructor gives an honest count of the lessons still needed.
Yes. Book Test Only ($190 for automatic, $220 for manual) and you sit the drive test using our car. Book Lesson + Test ($220 for automatic, $285 for manual) and you also get 60 minutes of warm-up lesson time, with pickup one hour prior to the test.
On test day, take your learner permit, plus any contact lenses or glasses you drive with. Under 21, you also need your completed logbook. It is worth reading your VicRoads booking confirmation in case something else is required.
A mock test is a good idea if your test is one to two weeks away, or if you have failed before. It shows exactly what still needs work.
Yes, on a Lesson + Test package. Test-day pickup happens an hour before the test begins, at your Mitcham address, and we bring you home after the testing officer gives your result.
The drive test for most Mitcham learners is held in Ringwood, at Mitcham Testing and Inspection Centre. Your last test lessons are driven around whichever centre you have booked.
The Mitcham area’s drive test centre, operated by VicRoads. Test candidates go to 93A Heatherdale Road, Ringwood. Test bookings are by appointment only: learner permit tests, driver licence tests, and also the Hazard Perception Test.
Victoria's Graduated Licensing System sets requirements that come ahead of any practical drive test. Test candidates hold a learner permit for the minimum time and need a Hazard Perception Test pass. Those under 21, in addition, log 120 supervised driving hours.
Most Mitcham learners pair their test preparation lessons with one of these.
A full-format VicRoads practice test lasting 60 minutes, followed by detailed feedback covering each point you would have dropped.
Pickup one hour before the test, 60 minutes of warm-up, and our own car to sit it in. The automatic package is $220 and the manual package is $285 all up.
No suitable test car of your own? Take the drive test in ours. Test Only prices start at $190 (automatic) and $220 (manual).
Test candidates do not have to come to us at all. Mitcham Driving School runs from Mitcham VIC, and test preparation lessons starting at a Mitcham address get free pickup. A test lesson can begin at school, at work or at home, across Mitcham and into the Whitehorse council area next to it.
